The Gallantry
Design Journal
Entry #1
I had previously worked with Xavier on the LSAGA campaign hosted by SCLegacy and though the project didn't come to a happy end, I was still happy we actually started that thing. Xavier is a very talented writer and though some people might see him as a bit harsh or just plain rude, I have never had problems working with him. Maybe it's because I've known him for almost 3 years now (through the net), maybe it's because I consider him as one of my friends.
A great amount of time passed since the LSAGA project, and suddenly Xavier was talking to me about some new project. He said that he had joined Desler's crew and that they were gonna do some big project. He asked if I could do some sounds. So I said "Sure..." and before I knew it Desler had invited me to join the crew. It's too bad he had to leave Campaign Creations and abandon this project, because it was great to work with this man.
I joined this crew as one of two sound-engineers (the other one is the very talented Legion), so my task was to take care of all Terran sounds and all sorts of other sfx. To me, custom sounds just need to be close to Blizzard's sounds, both in quality and in style. I really tried my best to achieve these points and to be honest, I think I've did a pretty decent job. Just wait until you guys hear Jiles Montgomery or Devon Lowburn. Oops, I guess I am just spoiling too much. You guys will just have to find out yourselves!
The hardest part of the entire sound-editing process was actually the amount of time I had to invest in research. It may sound silly, but very often I was sitting behind my computer for hours, listening to sound-samples and still I had nothing done! Once you get ONE sample to sound exactly the way you want it to, then the rest is just a matter of mindless pumping. Basically, the first sample (out a series of 12) takes most of your time, while the remaining 11 will take you probably the same amount of time when you had to go to the local supermarket and flirt with the nice girl behind the counter.
Enough of my ramblings, find out how the first episode sounds for yourselves!

When Joel left the crew, so did our custom soundtrack. Joel had already finished some musical pieces though and most of those will be heard in the campaign. So we were out of a composer, I tried to fill that role for a little while. It turned out harder then expected to get to the quality that is good enough for The Gallantry. I did manage to compose a nice evil track for Grotez, wich can be heard later in the campaign. So every once in a while when i make something that is good enough we will have a custom soundtrack.
For the rest of the campaign Anime music will be a good resource. Xavier also has several movie soundtracks in mind to be used in the campaign. With this think of great names as: The Lion King, Armageddon and Gladiator. So basically The Gallantry's musical experience will be coming from lots of sources.
