What is "Dark Swarm"?
It's a Starcraft: Brood War mini-campaign, originally created for the
Campaign Creations Mini-Campaign Contest.
Dark Swarm is a pilot; a precursor.
Does it require the Brood War Expansion to play?
Yes. Save for the first mission, all missions were made using the
Brood War Expansion.
When does it take place?
This mini-campaign takes place shortly before the original Starcraft
storyline, even before the precursor "Loomings".
Does it feature new units and sounds?
Dark Swarm features no new units, but it is fully voiced. I've paid
special attention to making all the dialogue 'near-Blizzard' quality. I
did all the acting and audio editing for the "unique to Dark Swarm" voices.
There is currently only one new (that is, altered) portrait, which I got
from the Star Alliance's free portrait service and was originally altered
by Rainblades.
Who is the mysterious entity that pops up halfway in the campaign?
The identity of this creature is to remain a secret. Some have pointed
out that his appearance resembles a character from the "Legacy
of the Confederation" campaign, but I can assure you, this character
is nothing like that. I was never intending to copy anything from this
brilliant campaign series.
Will there be a sequel?
At this point, I can't say there will be. I'll be releasing the synopsis
for Episode II in installments so the story will be told, but I currently
have no plans for a continuation. Maybe later.
